Grandad’s Tour

Images assembled from slides taken by my grandad, Harold Philips in the 60s and 70s on his European holidays, the places he visited since changed physically and in our imagination by events. The original slide film was re-assembled (in sandwiched pairs) to make a new ‘tour’, projected on a 35mm looping carousel in a slow animation. The piece was experinced in a very dark space, with horizons matched to the gallery floor level, creating a theatrical space in the gallery, and a different sense of time and ‘being there’.  The work was shown at Howard Gardens Gallery, Cardiff.
